On MacBooks from 2016 onwards, including every Apple silicon Mac, the SSD is soldered to the logic board and encrypted by it. If the board dies, the data can only come back by repairing the board. That component-level work is what we do every day.

Problems we recover from

• MacBook dead after a liquid spill and the data isn't backed up
• Won't turn on, or stuck on the Apple logo
• APFS container corrupt, disk won't mount
• Deleted files or erased disk
• Fusion Drive split or failed
• Time Machine backup won't restore

What to do before you bring it in

• Stop using it straight away. Every attempt to use it can overwrite or damage the data.
• Do not run CHKDSK, Disk Utility First Aid or recovery software on a device that is noisy or slow.
• Do not open the device. Opening a hard drive outside a clean room destroys the platters.
• Do not format or initialise it, even if Windows or macOS asks you to.
• After a spill, switch the Mac off, unplug it and do not try to charge it.

How Mac data recovery works

1. Free evaluation: we diagnose the fault (logical, firmware or physical).
2. Fixed quote before any recovery work starts.
3. Safe imaging: we copy the device sector by sector with PC-3000, in our Class 100 clean room when the drive must be opened, and work only from the copy.
4. Your data back on a new drive or USB, checked with you first. No data, no fee on eligible recoveries.
