NAS Data Recovery

When a NAS volume crashes, every file on it is at risk. We rebuild the array from images of each disk, never the originals. That way we can recover shares, photo libraries and backups after failed disks, failed rebuilds or firmware problems.

Problems we recover from

• Volume 'crashed', 'degraded' or 'not accessible'
• Two or more disks failed, or a rebuild stopped part-way
• Disks removed and put back in the wrong order
• NAS won't boot after a firmware update or power cut
• Deleted shared folders or snapshots
• Ransomware on the NAS: we check what can be recovered from the disks and snapshots
• Single-disk NAS (My Cloud Home, LinkStation) not showing on the network

What to do before you bring it in

• Stop using it straight away. Every attempt to use it can overwrite or damage the data.
• Do not run CHKDSK, Disk Utility First Aid or recovery software on a device that is noisy or slow.
• Do not open the device. Opening a hard drive outside a clean room destroys the platters.
• Do not format or initialise it, even if Windows or macOS asks you to.
• Do not start a rebuild or re-create the volume. Label each disk with its bay number before removing it.

How NAS data recovery works

1. Free evaluation: we diagnose the fault (logical, firmware or physical).
2. Fixed quote before any recovery work starts.
3. Safe imaging: we copy the device sector by sector with PC-3000, in our Class 100 clean room when the drive must be opened, and work only from the copy.
4. Your data back on a new drive or USB, checked with you first. No data, no fee on eligible recoveries.
